With the support of Rosneft, the 28th Race of Champions took place last weekend, featuring the best Russian drivers from various motorsport disciplines. The event took place at the Sosnovka racetrack outside Tolyatti.
The Race of Champions is an annual event held on a synchronised ice track and is unique in Russia. This year, sixteen athletes took part, including champions of circuit racing, drifting, karting, rallying and ice racing, as well as winners of international rally raids and Russia’s first Formula 1 driver, Vitaly Petrov.
On the main day of the race, the competition took place in two stages. Following the qualifying pair races, eight athletes were selected to compete in the quarter-finals, which were held in a knockout format. According to the competition rules, the final races continued until two victories were achieved.
Dmitry Bragin was crowned the winner of the Race of Champions, winning the main trophy — the Silver Rook. Multiple rallycross champion Yegor Sanin took second place, while Kirill Ladygin, a driver for the LADA Sport ROSNEFT team and winner of last year’s Race of Champions, took third place.
During the qualifying rounds, the drivers competed in upgraded LADA Vesta cars, which were fitted with sequential gearboxes and more powerful engines. In the final stage of the competition, the finalists switched to LADA Iskra sports cars. All of the cars that participated in the race were fuelled with Rosneft’s high-octane Pulsar-100 petrol and used Rosneft Magnum Racing sports engine oil.
The competition attracted several thousand fans and motorsport enthusiasts from Tolyatti, Samara and neighbouring regions.
Rosneft has been the principal sponsor of LADA Sport ROSNEFT since 2015. During this period, the team has achieved impressive results, winning 47 championship titles. These include victories in the Silk Way Rally and in all classes of circuit racing, classic rallying and karting.
This collaboration has brought innovative products to market, such as Pulsar 100 high-octane petrol and Rosneft Magnum Racing sports racing oil. The LADA Sport ROSNEFT team has been using this particular motor oil since 2021, as it provides increased engine protection in extreme competitive conditions. The technologies tested on racetracks are available to motorists. Pulsar fuel and Magnum Racing oil can be purchased at Rosneft filling stations.
