T1 is a new tram route connecting Metrogorodok to Universitet metro station, providing fast and comfortable travel between Moscow’s east and southwest via the city center. It operates to the standards of an above-ground metro.

Maxim Liksutov reported that trams on the T1 route have completed over 500 trips, covering more than 13,000 kilometers. The T1 route spans 27 km, making it the longest urban diametrical tram route in the world. It connects 13 Moscow districts from east to southwest, as well as 4 central railway stations and 24 metro, MCC, and MCD stations.
The route features Russia’s first Lvyonok-Moskva trams with autonomous operation, capable of traveling a 2.1 km section along Akademika Sakharova Prospect without connecting to the overhead power lines.
“Just recently, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin inaugurated the world’s longest urban diametrical tram route. The first MTD line has already proven its convenience and demand, with passengers making over 100,000 trips. We continue to develop eco-friendly and innovative transport in the capital,” added Maksim Liksutov.
