A major milestone has been achieved in Moscow: the biometric fare payment service is now operational at every turnstile in the Moscow Metro and the Moscow Central Circle (MCC).
Key Points:
- The service is already available on the Aeroexpress, at regular river transport docks, and at select Moscow Central Diameters (MCD) stations.
- Due to growing popularity, plans are in place to expand the service to all MCD stations by the end of 2026.
- Users can activate the service through the official Metro of Moscow
- Benefits and Security:
- Convenience: No need to carry cards, phones, or cash—just look into the camera.

- Security: The system is entirely Russian-developed and owned by the Moscow Government. All personal data is encrypted, and the system is protected against external interference, meeting modern cybersecurity standards.
- Global Leadership: With its wide coverage across various transport modes, Moscow leads the world in the number of transport services offering biometric payment.
Usage Statistics:
- Since its launch in October 2021, nearly 700,000 users have signed up for the service.
How to Sign Up:
- Open the Metro of Moscow app and follow the instructions to register your biometric profile.
Project Impact:
- Biometric payment enhances passenger convenience and speeds up transit, reducing control times and driving the digital transformation of the city’s transport infrastructure.

“The biometric fare payment service started working at all metro stations in 2021 as a project by Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin. Today, about 200,000 trips are made using facial recognition on a working day, and this number is steadily growing. I myself became one of the first users of the system and recommend everyone to connect and try it. Our development complies with the strictest requirements of Russian Federation legislation. All user data is encrypted and protected, and payment information is stored only on the bank’s side,” assured Maksim Liksutov.
