Rosneft Introduce Automation into Comprehensive Oil Production Management

Source: Rosneft – An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

As part of the RN-Predix Saturn information system, Rosneft specialists have developed an innovative oil production management model.

The software prototype’s primary function is the collection of operational data on wells, pipelines, and oil, gas, and water treatment facilities. The model operates in near real time and automatically performs multi-variant calculations and determines the optimal operating parameters for the entire production chain.

Compared to similar models, including foreign ones, the main advantages of this model are its ability to work with daily data and forecast the technological regime one month ahead. This enables changes in the volume of oil produced to be estimated.

The software’s high productivity is not due to its unique program code, but rather to a fundamentally new approach to modelling. The application product treats the field as a single entity rather than a set of separate elements. This enables optimal solutions to be found for the entire system, rather than just its individual parts.

The product has been tested on production wells at the Oryebash field. The integrated model was applied to 12 wells, thus increasing daily oil production by 10%.

The model is planned to be replicated at other Company’s fields in 2026-2027.

For reference:

The RN-Predix Saturn automated oilfield management system is a prime example of the synergy between state-of-the-art digital solutions, advanced software, and the specialist expertise of Rosneft. For the first time in the industry, the advanced solutions used in the product cover all key oil production and logistics processes, from wells and transportation systems to preparation systems and the release of oil into the main pipeline system at the Company’s refineries and to consumers.
