Rosneft-Supported Ornithologists Confirmed Stability of Steller’s Sea Eagle Population in Khabarovsk Territory

Source: Rosneft – An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

Scientists from the Zapovednoye Priamurye Nature Reserve and environmentalists from the RN-Komsomolsk Oil Refinery (Rosneft subsidiary) have summarised the results of the fieldwork stage of the Under the Strong Wing project, which is aimed at studying and conserving the Steller’s sea eagle. Ornithologists have reported that the population of this red-listed bird in the Udyl Nature Reserve is doing well and is stable.

During the expedition, the scientists explored the area around Lake Udyl in the Ulchsky District of the Khabarovsk Territory. Ornithologists surveyed the coastal areas of Karasevy Lake Bay, where the nesting density is highest, using unmanned aerial vehicles. The Komsomolsk Refinery supplied all the technical equipment required for the fieldwork.

Ornithologists assessed the birds’ food supply, took samples of their biomaterials and collected data from camera traps. This resulted in a large amount of data being gathered. Examination of the observed nests revealed that they were all inhabited. Researchers captured the key stages of the nesting period for bird families, including their arrival from wintering grounds, mating rituals, egg incubation and the appearance of chicks.

A comparative analysis of the monitoring results and observations from previous years confirms that the population size in the reserve has remained stable. Thanks to its rich food supply and remoteness from populated areas and tourist routes, Lake Udyl remains an ideal habitat for the Steller’s sea eagle. Following an assessment of the quality of the feed base and the health of the birds, scientists will supplement their conclusions based on the results of laboratory biochemical studies.

The results of the large-scale studies conducted as part of the Under the Strong Wing project between 2023 and 2025 are scheduled to be presented at a roundtable event in December. Employees of Zapovednoye Priamurye and environmentalists from the Komsomolsk Refinery are planning to meet with ornithologists from other Russian regions to discuss ways of protecting Steller’s sea eagles and conducting further scientific research.

Educational activities continue to be an important part of the Under Strong Wings project. Volunteers from an environmental initiative are delivering interactive, themed lectures and quizzes to schoolchildren in the Khabarovsk Territory. These will include new information about the bird that is on the red list.

Preserving the environment for future generations is one of the key areas of Rosneft’s development strategy. The Company and its subsidiaries are implementing a number of comprehensive programmes to preserve biodiversity and natural resources in the regions of operations. They are also striving to ensure environmentally friendly production processes and minimise their environmental impact. Ornithological projects are given special attention. Thanks to the support of its subsidiaries in various regions across the country, Rosneft is conducting research and developing measures to preserve and protect rare bird species such as Steller’s sea eagles, wild geese and white gulls, etc.

For reference:

The Steller’s sea eagle is the largest member of the eagle family. The average body length is 110 cm and the wingspan up to 250 cm. Individuals can weigh up to 9 kg. It nests only in the Russian Far East along sea and river coasts. There are around 1,200 birds of prey of this species living in the Khabarovsk Territory. The species is listed as rare and endangered in the Red Data Book of the Russian Federation.

Since 2023, the Komsomolsk Refinery has been implementing the Under the Strong Wing project to study and preserve the Steller’s sea eagle in conjunction with the Zapovednoye Priamurye Nature Reserve.

Enterprise volunteers cleared rubbish from the rare bird’s habitats. The Komsomolsk Refinery funded a series of expeditions to the Gorin and Amur rivers and Lake Udyl. These expeditions helped to pinpoint the locations of the eagles’ nests and enabled the population to be monitored remotely in its natural habitat. This information is extremely valuable for the successful implementation of environmental initiatives.

The Under Strong Wing project won an award at the regional Ecoleader competition, which was organised by the Khabarovsk Territory’s Ministry of Natural Resources.

Moscow Celebrates Six Years of the Moscow Central Diameters: The Next-Generation Rail Network Continues to Develop.

Six years ago, in November 2019, a new era of rail transport began in Moscow with the launch of the first two Moscow Central Diameters (MCD-1 and MCD-2). This launch was a key step toward creating a modern and convenient above-ground metro system.

Before the introduction of the diameters, commuter trains were considered commuter transport with infrequent services, outdated platforms, and poor comfort. The MCDs changed this: today, four diameters operate in the Moscow region, connecting 137 stations. The total length of the lines exceeds 300 kilometers.

The MCD network is seamlessly integrated into Moscow’s unified transportation system: passengers have access to over 100 transfers to the metro, the MCC, and other diameters. Unified fares make travel on the MCDs part of the city’s transport infrastructure.

Modern Russian-made trains provide a comfortable and convenient travel experience. During the first year of operation, the rolling stock on the first two diameters was completely renewed, and in 2025, MCD-3 and MCD-4 were also renewed.

As Maksim Liksutov, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry, reported, the Moscow Central Diameters are becoming an increasingly popular mode of transport every year. Since their inception, passengers have made nearly 1.6 billion trips, with up to 500.000 trips made daily on the MCD. Today, the diameters have become a fully-fledged surface metro and an alternative to other modes of urban transport.

The network’s development continues. Modern passenger services are being introduced on the diameters, stations are being built and reconstructed, new comfortable city stations are being created, and infrastructure is being updated. Currently, 54 MCD stations are operating in the city, with projects underway at Petrovsko-Razumovskaya, Serp i Molot, Tsaritsyno, Begovaya, and Moscow-City stations.

The XIX International Forum and Exhibition “Transport of Russia” has started at Gostiny Dvor!

From November 18 to 20, we will present the best solutions from the Moscow Government here. The venue brings together representatives of government bodies and leaders of leading Russian enterprises. Visitors to the exhibition will learn:

  • About the implementation of innovative transport. Guests will see how Russia’s first fully driverless tram “sees” obstacles on the route: people, stops, traffic lights. Since May 2024, it has traveled more than 18,000 km around the city without violating traffic rules even once.
  • About biometric payment and new generation turnstiles that will increase the throughput capacity of metro stations by 40%.
  • About smart traffic management systems of the Central Traffic Management Center.
  • About traffic organization projects that helped optimize parking space and create comfortable pedestrian accessibility to major facilities. All this is developed by specialists from the MosTransProject Research Institute.
  • How transport professions are taught—from train drivers to top managers at the Corporate University of the Transport Complex.
  • About the capabilities of the Alexander chatbot. It answers citizens’ questions about the metro, MCC, MCD, transport services, and much more around the clock.

This is only part of the transport innovations we will showcase.

“By the order of Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin, we actively cooperate with regions of our country. Some projects are already used outside the capital. This year at the exhibition and forum, we will show the latest transport projects and digital services in the field of fare payment, parking, demonstrate the operation of driverless transport, and the best solutions for traffic management. We will share the experience of implementation and the advantages of these innovations. All this will help us create the future of the country’s transport together,” said Maksim Liksutov.

The events are held at the Gostiny Dvor in Moscow.

Moscow’s First Tram Diameter T1 Rapidly Gains Popularity.

T1 is a new tram route connecting Metrogorodok to Universitet metro station, providing fast and comfortable travel between Moscow’s east and southwest via the city center. It operates to the standards of an above-ground metro.

Maxim Liksutov reported that trams on the T1 route have completed over 500 trips, covering more than 13,000 kilometers. The T1 route spans 27 km, making it the longest urban diametrical tram route in the world. It connects 13 Moscow districts from east to southwest, as well as 4 central railway stations and 24 metro, MCC, and MCD stations.

The route features Russia’s first Lvyonok-Moskva trams with autonomous operation, capable of traveling a 2.1 km section along Akademika Sakharova Prospect without connecting to the overhead power lines.

“Just recently, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin inaugurated the world’s longest urban diametrical tram route. The first MTD line has already proven its convenience and demand, with passengers making over 100,000 trips. We continue to develop eco-friendly and innovative transport in the capital,” added Maksim Liksutov.

Samotlorneftegaz’s Green Investments Exceed 15 Billion Roubles in the First Nine Months of 2025

Source: Rosneft – An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

In the first nine months of 2025, Samotlorneftegaz, one of Rosneft’s key production assets, allocated over 15 billion roubles to environment-oriented programmes and initiatives.

The enterprise implements a number of environmental programmes, including methane emission monitoring, land reclamation, safe disposal of industrial waste, restocking of Siberian rivers with fish, and reforestation.

Samotlorneftegaz has been implementing an investment programme for a number of years that includes the phased modernisation of gas infrastructure, with the aim of maintaining utilisation of associated petroleum gas at a rate of no less than 98%. The Samotlor field has an advanced and extensive system for collecting, preparing, compressing and transporting gas. The bulk of the feedstock goes to gas processing plants and local consumers.

Samotlorneftegaz monitors greenhouse gas emissions at the enterprise’s production facilities. Since the beginning of the year, over 2,600 measurements have been taken at oil and gas processing facilities using modern equipment such as infrared cameras, laser scanners and ultrasonic detectors. A further 230 measurements have been taken at mechanised well facilities. Surveys were conducted on gas pipelines with a total length of around 506 kilometres using unmanned aerial vehicles equipped with laser gas analysers.

As part of the pipeline reliability improvement programme, 152 km of oil field pipelines have been constructed since the beginning of the year. To ensure the durability of the pipeline system, the inner surfaces of the pipes are coated with modern domestic materials, and new technologies are used to process the welded joints. The existing pipeline network is being protected against corrosion using inhibitors.

Samotlorneftegaz has completed the «historic heritage» land reclamation project. The technical and biological stages of reclamation were carried out year-round due to the extensive use of proprietary winter reclamation and phytomelioration technologies. Samotlorneftegaz conducted most of its works using its own ecoservice, with unique specialised equipment for working in boggy areas.

Another of the enterprise’s key tasks is maintaining ecological balance in its operating area by replenishing biological resources. Around 5,000 Siberian sterlet fry and over 750,000 muksun and nelma fry were released into the Ob-Irtysh basin. In recent years, the campaigns carried out in the northern rivers have led to the release of over 20 million fry of valuable fish species.

Over the last 10 years, the enterprise has planted more than 1.8 million conifers on Ugra forestry land, covering an area of 520 hectares. In addition to the forest areas, volunteers from the enterprise also planted trees in Nizhnevartovsk’s parks in 2025.

Preserving the environment for future generations is one of the key areas of Rosneft’s development strategy. The Company and its subsidiaries are implementing a number of comprehensive programmes to preserve biodiversity and conserve natural resources in the regions of operations. They are also striving to ensure environmentally friendly production processes and minimise their environmental impact.

For reference:

Samotlorneftegaz is one of Rosneft’s key production enterprises developing Russia’s largest Samotlor field located in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous District – Yugra. The scope of license areas exceeds 2,900 square kilometres.
