As part of the Platform of Good Deeds corporate programme, Rosneft volunteers organised a tour of the Moscow Zoo for children from the Movement of the Firsts youth organisation and schoolchildren from Serpukhov. The tour, which marked the Year of the Fatherland Defender, focused not only on learning about the animal kingdom, but also on the heroic actions of the zoo’s staff during the Great Patriotic War.

The guides told the children about the heroic efforts of the zoo workers, who saved the lives of animals in the most difficult conditions, setting a true example of courage and loyalty to duty. The children also learnt about the specifics of caring for wild animals, including their habits, diet and how they prepare for winter.

The Moscow Zoo is home to over a thousand different species of animal. It was the first time the children had seen many of them, including pandas, leopards, seals, elephants, penguins, flamingos, and many others. The young visitors were captivated by the polar bears Aika and Terpei, who are being cared for by Rosneft.

Conservation and protection of the polar bear population is one of the main aspects of Rosneft’s environmental programme. Samotlorneftegaz’s Green Investments Exceed 15 Billion Roubles in the First Nine Months of 2025

Source: Rosneft – An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

In the first nine months of 2025, Samotlorneftegaz, one of Rosneft’s key production assets, allocated over 15 billion roubles to environment-oriented programmes and initiatives.

The enterprise implements a number of environmental programmes, including methane emission monitoring, land reclamation, safe disposal of industrial waste, restocking of Siberian rivers with fish, and reforestation.

Samotlorneftegaz has been implementing an investment programme for a number of years that includes the phased modernisation of gas infrastructure, with the aim of maintaining utilisation of associated petroleum gas at a rate of no less than 98%. The Samotlor field has an advanced and extensive system for collecting, preparing, compressing and transporting gas. The bulk of the feedstock goes to gas processing plants and local consumers.

Samotlorneftegaz monitors greenhouse gas emissions at the enterprise’s production facilities. Since the beginning of the year, over 2,600 measurements have been taken at oil and gas processing facilities using modern equipment such as infrared cameras, laser scanners and ultrasonic detectors. A further 230 measurements have been taken at mechanised well facilities. Surveys were conducted on gas pipelines with a total length of around 506 kilometres using unmanned aerial vehicles equipped with laser gas analysers.

As part of the pipeline reliability improvement programme, 152 km of oil field pipelines have been constructed since the beginning of the year. To ensure the durability of the pipeline system, the inner surfaces of the pipes are coated with modern domestic materials, and new technologies are used to process the welded joints. The existing pipeline network is being protected against corrosion using inhibitors.

Samotlorneftegaz has completed the «historic heritage» land reclamation project. The technical and biological stages of reclamation were carried out year-round due to the extensive use of proprietary winter reclamation and phytomelioration technologies. Samotlorneftegaz conducted most of its works using its own ecoservice, with unique specialised equipment for working in boggy areas.

Another of the enterprise’s key tasks is maintaining ecological balance in its operating area by replenishing biological resources. Around 5,000 Siberian sterlet fry and over 750,000 muksun and nelma fry were released into the Ob-Irtysh basin. In recent years, the campaigns carried out in the northern rivers have led to the release of over 20 million fry of valuable fish species.

Over the last 10 years, the enterprise has planted more than 1.8 million conifers on Ugra forestry land, covering an area of 520 hectares. In addition to the forest areas, volunteers from the enterprise also planted trees in Nizhnevartovsk’s parks in 2025.

Preserving the environment for future generations is one of the key areas of Rosneft’s development strategy. The Company and its subsidiaries are implementing a number of comprehensive programmes to preserve biodiversity and conserve natural resources in the regions of operations. They are also striving to ensure environmentally friendly production processes and minimise their environmental impact.

For reference:

Samotlorneftegaz is one of Rosneft’s key production enterprises developing Russia’s largest Samotlor field located in the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous District – Yugra. The scope of license areas exceeds 2,900 square kilometres.

Rosneft Sponsors Scientific Conference on Marine Research

Source: Rosneft – An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

The 14th International Scientific and Practical Conference «Marine Research and Education: MARESEDU-2025», sponsored by Rosneft, took place in Moscow. The conference has been organised by the Marine Research Centre of Lomonosov Moscow State University, the UNESCO-MSU Educational and Scientific Centre for Marine Biology and Biophysics, and the Shirshov Institute of Oceanology at the Russian Academy of Sciences. Over 1,200 specialists took part in the conference.

Rosneft has been supporting the conference since 2019. This event provides a key platform for discussions among the country’s leading marine researchers. As part of the thematic sessions this year, Rosneft specialists gave a presentation on the Company’s extensive scientific research in the Arctic.

Rosneft implements the most ambitious program for studying the Arctic region since Soviet times. Over the past 13 years, over 60 expeditions have been carried out to study the hydrometeorological, geological and biological features of the region. This has resulted in a unique collection of information on the climate, nature and wildlife of the Arctic. It has been the source of a unique body of information on Arctic climate, nature and wildlife.

As part of Tamura Corporation’s environmental programme, scientists from the A. N. Severtsov Institute of Ecology and Evolution of the Russian Academy of Sciences presented conference participants with the results of their expeditions to study polar bears in the Kara Sea. The Tamura programme, launched in 2024, aims to update information on the status of key animal species in the Far North. Scientists are studying the Kara subpopulation of polar bears, wild reindeer and valuable species of birds and fish in western Taymyr. The programme will run until 2027.

Scientists from Moscow State University presented a report on Rosneft’s significant environmental project in the White Sea. The project was launched in 2023 and is being implemented in collaboration with the country’s leading scientific institutes and the Innopraktika company. In order to gather information on the current state of marine biota and evaluate changes to the region’s ecosystem over the past 100 years, scientists retraced the steps of a distinctive expedition led by the Soviet hydrobiologist Konstantin Deryugin between 1922 and 1926. In addition, Rosneft representatives participated in a roundtable discussion at the N. A. Pertsov White Sea Biological Station (WSBS MSU). WSBS MSU is a research site for a number of the Company’s environmental projects.

Over 500 scientific papers were presented at sessions on oceanology, hydrology, ecology, biology, environmental management, marine geology. Scientists from remote regions of Russia were able to present the results of their research thanks to the hybrid format and online broadcast. The event also featured a competition for young people among high school, university and postgraduate students. Following the results, the expert council selected 20 winners, who were then presented with Rosneft’s environmental atlases.

Source: Rosneft – An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

Rosneft has been working consistently to preserve biological diversity and replenish the country’s aquatic bio-resources. Between August and October this year, the Company’s subsidiaries released over 11.2 million fish fry, including red-listed species, into Russian water bodies.

Those who took part in the fish stocking activities included employees of enterprises and their children, activists from the Movement of the Firsts, students from partner universities, schoolchildren participating in the annual Fresh Look eco-competition and representatives of the territorial bodies of the Federal Agency for Fisheries.

Ecologists from RN-Yuganskneftegaz released almost 4.5 million fry of valuable fish species, including 2.21 million Siberian sturgeon, 2.21 million peled and 42,000 muksun, into the rivers and reservoirs of Siberia. Samotlorneftegaz released 720,000 muksun and 40,000 nelma fry into rivers in the Ob-Irtysh basin. Meanwhile, Kondaneft released 3.3 million peled and 129,000 sturgeon fry. Over 2 million sterlet fry were released by specialists from RN-Vankor, 74,000 by Slavneft-Krasnoyarskneftegaz, 3,200 by Taas-Yuryakh Neftedobycha, and 1,500 by Angarsk Petrochemical Company.

In the Volga-Ural region, Bashneft oil workers released 19,000 fry of valuable commercial fish, including sterlet and sea trout, into the rivers of Bashkortostan. The Udmurtneft employees released 40,000 sterlet fish into the waterways of Udmurtia. Specialists from Orenburgneft released 20,000 carp fry into water bodies in the Orenburg region.

The Saratov Refinery released more than 32,000 carp fry into the Volga, the Syzran Refinery released 11,400 sterlet fry and 16,500 carp, the Novokuybyshevsk Oil Refinery released 17,000 carp and around 12,000 sterlet, the Kuybyshevsk Oil Refinery released 49,000 carp, and the Novokuybyshevsk Petrochemical Company released 64,300 carp and 83,700 sterlet.

The Tuapse Oil Refinery in southern Russia released 35,600 Black Sea trout, a species listed in the Red Book.

At the request of oil enterprises, fry were raised on specialised fish farms, which provided optimal conditions for their adaptation to and survival in the wild. The most favourable period, when the water is most saturated with oxygen, was chosen for releasing the fry.

The employees of Rosneft subsidiaries actively participate in environmental campaigns and contribute to the development of a culture of rational and responsible consumption of natural resources. Volunteers from the Company’s enterprises regularly clean up litter and improve the banks of rivers, lakes and springs, and conduct environmental education classes in schools.

Rosneft Supports Project to Preserve Forest Nenets Language

Source: Rosneft – An important disclaimer is at the bottom of this article.

As part of the RN-Purnegaz grant project (part of Rosneft’s oil and gas production complex), scientists from the Faculty of Humanities at the Higher School of Economics have developed teaching materials on the Forest Nenets language. The project’s objective is to safeguard the national cultures and traditional way of life of the indigenous peoples of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District.

In collaboration with teachers and activists involved in the movement to safeguard national culture, linguists at the university have developed teaching materials on the Forest Nenets language for primary school children, a workbook of practical exercises and a language trainer. The teaching materials are now available online. Furthermore, following the approval of the materials by the relevant departments, it is planned that they will be published and used in the educational process at national boarding schools.

The Forest Nenets language is very different from the Tundra Nenets language spoken by the majority of Yamal’s indigenous people. The total number of speakers of the «forest» language is currently estimated at around one thousand. The population is stable, but the number of native speakers is declining due to the use of textbooks written in the Tundra Nenets language, which is not native to the Forest Nenets, in educational institutions. This book, which has been developed for reading in the Forest Nenets language, will help to solve the problem of the lack of literature.

The Forest Nenets language is characterised by a complex system of rules for forming and changing words. An online trainer for declensions and conjugations will help children learn proper word formation. Students will have the opportunity to complete homework assignments and take online tests on how to form words correctly.

One of the key areas of Rosneft’s social policy is the preservation of the national culture of the indigenous peoples of the North and their traditional way of life. The Company’s enterprises implement numerous social projects in their regions of operation, developing infrastructure in northern villages, supporting reindeer herding families, and improving the material and technical base of educational, social and medical institutions in the ancestral homelands of indigenous minorities.

With the support of RN-Purneftegaz, a project to prepare children for school directly where the families live — in nomadic kindergartens — has already been successfully implemented. A collection of methodological materials entitled «Trends in Nomadic Education» was compiled, which included developmental programmes in the Nenets language, unique practices and lesson plans for the pre-school education of children from nomadic groups.
