More than 2 million Muscovites have gained access to new transportation connections thanks to the launch of the second Moscow tram diameter, T2.

Moscow – The capital’s modern tram network continues to expand: the launch of the second Moscow tram diameter, T2, has provided more than 2 million city residents with new transportation connections.

The T2 route runs from the Chertanovskaya metro station to the Novogireevo MCD station. The new diameter connects the south and east of Moscow via the city center, providing convenient access for residents of 13 districts. The diameter passes through five administrative districts and connects key destinations-office centers, educational institutions, medical facilities, as well as popular recreational and leisure spots.

The T2 tram diameter has become an important part of the capital’s transportation network and has significantly expanded the possibilities for travel without transfers.

T2 by the numbers:

  • the route runs near 31 metro, MCC, MCD, and railway stations, as well as four railway stations;
  • It connects the south and east of the city via the center, covering 13 districts;
  • It includes 79 stops along the entire length of the line.

“On the instructions of Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin, we are continuing to develop the tram network as a street-level metro. The launch of the T2 diameter has provided new transportation connections for over 2 million Muscovites and has proven its relevance and demand from the very first day of operation. Now residents can cross the city on modern trams without transferring. For many, travel time has been significantly reduced. For example, students at Bauman Moscow State Technical University now reach Chistye Prudy 2.5 times faster – in just 15 minutes instead of 35. “This is a qualitatively new level of comfort for urban travel,” — noted Maksim Liksutov, Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport and Industry.

The development of tram infrastructure remains one of the city’s transport policy priorities and is aimed at improving the quality of life for Muscovites.
